UMW Purpose Statement

The St. James chapter of United Methodist Women meet on the fourth Thursday of every month (September through June) at 1:00 pm, or at noon for luncheon meetings. UMW is open to all women, and you are welcome to become a part of this fine group of women.

Our UMW group regularly raises money to support ministries both within the church, and also in our community and the world at large. One special local ministry is the provision of socks, sneakers, and boots for children at Hyde Park Elementary School who can't afford decent footwear.

The UMW group also sponsors our church quilt ministry. Our Sew and Sows meet every Thursday to make prayer and cuddle quilts. Read more about this wonderful ministry and see pictures of all our quilts on our Sew and Sows page.

Upcoming projects for UMW

Our Annual Mitten Tree will be set up right after Thanksgiving. We are hoping to fill the tree with hats, gloves, scarves. Under the tree we hope there will plenty of socks to warm the feet of children. These items will be taken to Hyde Park School.

We also will be taking orders for Cookies. Just in time for your Christmas entertainment. Order forms will be out after Thanksgiving.
We appreciate all the support you give us that helps us provide funds for mission projects we do.

The Sew and Sows continue to make Prayer quilts and Comfort quilts for persons suffering with serious illnesses. If you know of someone who is in need of one our quilts, please contact Joyce Perry, Betty LaBelle, or Sharon Moore. We also have helped an organization that provides special pillows for those with cancer. The Little Wonders Child Care is a recipient of Cuddle quilts and small pillows that the children are given. Quits are also provided for patients of Niagara Hospice.

BEECHWOOD SERVICE GUILD is celebrating over 50 years of providing service to the residents of Beech wood. Through the years they have provided lap robes, walker bags, presented special programs, assisted the chaplain with communion, and each year a tea is held in the spring and one in December to help provide funding for the Living Care Fund and the Activity Fund.

We encourage you to continue dropping off non-perishable items in the special barrel located in the Narthex. Food items are distributed locally to those in need.xxxx
