“I come to the garden alone while the dew is still on the roses, and voice I hear falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses. And he walks with me, and he talks with me, and he tells me I am his own; and the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.” (C. Austin Miles)

Judy Maggs

Judy Maggs St. James’ Director of Music, leads the choir and play organ/piano in the worship service. She has a Bachelor of Music Degree from SUNY Potsdam and has been in music ministry at St. James since 1979, when she took the organist position “temporarily.” Since 2007, she has also served as St. James’ Website Administrator, and she edits "Centered in Christ," St. James' weekly email newsletter.

Judy taught piano at the Music School of Niagara from its opening in 1978 until its closing in 2008 and is a free lance pianist. She enjoys writing, composing music, keeping the website up-to-date, doing puzzles, and playing viola and piano in the Amherst Chamber Ensembles and the Cheektowaga Symphony. (And she helps administer the websites for both orchestras.) She and her husband Will are blessed with three lovely adult daughters.

Favorite aspects of her ministry include helping others share their talents for the Lord, the thrill of praising God with his amazing gift of music, and making our website into a true outreach ministry.

"Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world...This precious gift has been given to man alone that he might thereby remind himself that God has created man for the express purpose of praising and extolling God." (Martin Luther)

Music Director's office hours: Tuesday/Thursday 9:30 am to 1:30 pm and Thursday 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm (Choir rehearsal)
