Adult Studies

The ABCs of Methodism

In the Wesley Study Bible (New Revised Standard Version) the notes are based on the Wesleyan tradition. Attention was made to use John Wesley's study notes and to reference his sermons. It also contains Wesleyan core terms that explain the meanings of certain theological words, based on Wesleyan tradition. It also includes many life application topics, which provide insights into applying a scripture passage into the reader's life.

You don't have to have a copy of this Bible version to be a part of the weekly study. This study is a brief 20 minute one, before the Sunday Service.

The ABCs of Methodism meet every Sunday morning at 9:00.

1- 4 pm

If you’re interested in becoming a member of our church, generally there is no formal membership class, but rather some informal conversations with me over coffee or tea about our beliefs and membership vows, and your faith and hopes for membership and how you can be a vital part of our church family. It’s a chance for me to know you better and for you to know me better. Contact me through the church office for an appointment.

Dirt Devils

Our infamous Dirt Devils are really a bunch of angels! These men spend every Tuesday morning (and sometimes more) doing all sorts of work around the church. They mow, trim, and help with gardens in the summer, plow in the winter (with the help of a plowing service for the major plowing), do repair work, build name it.

A lot of the men are no longer able to do the work, so they would LOVE to have some new helpers. Women are welcome, too! If you can only help occasionally, or at different times, you’re still needed!

Media Ministry

Our media team provides video and audio support to our worship services each week. If you're interested in helping with this ministry, please contact Tim Hanna or Judy Maggs. (

We're always looking for men and women who could usher for Sunday morning services. The only requirement is a friendly smile! If you're interested, talk to Paul Beam or to the pastor.

We also welcome anyone interested to take a turn occasionally as a liturgist for a worship service. It just involves leading the congregation in a call to worship and prayer, announcing the offering, and reading a scripture passage. Everything you need is written out for you (in large print even!) so it's easy. If you're interested, talk to Will Maggs or to the pastor.

M & M's

The St. James M & M group is for those "Mature Methodists" who are 80 years old or above. We meet several times a year for special activities, such as a sing-along or game time or even a Hawaiian luau! We have a great time and it's a real lift for the spirits!

(We try to not have activities during the cold wintery weather, as it is difficult for many to get out and about.)

If you haven't had the opportunity to attend one of our events and would like to, please let us know so that we may send you an invitation. (Contact Joyce Perry, or the church office. ( - (716) 297-6421)

Upcoming M&M events are posted on our Events Page.

Shut-in Card Ministry

The Shut-In Card Ministry provides a connection to our Church members who are unable to attend worship services on a regular basis, or who have been ill. On the first Sunday of each month cards are made available to be sent to our shut-ins by caring members in the church, letting them know they are still very much in our thoughts, heart and prayers.

Through this caring ministry, our members who can’t attend services still feel connected and know they are lifted up in our prayers. We welcome members to get involved and send a packet of cards each month to our shut-Ins.

And we welcome donations of cards and stamps to help out this ministry.

Flowers for the Altar

You are encouraged to place flowers on the altar in memory of loved ones or in celebration of an important event in your life. If you are interested in contributing flowers for the altar, please contact the church office ( - (716) 297-6421). Or you can sign up on the flower chart on the door of the sacristy. You can either provide the flowers yourself, or we can order either one or two vases of flowers for you. ($15 per vase)

Please let the church office know by the beginning of the week before what you would like in the bulletin about the flowers. After the service you may either take them yourself, or you can request that they be given to shut-ins.

Garden Ministry

If you are interested in helping out with our lovely gardens, please talk to one of the Dirt Devils. They would love your help!
