Focus - Working TogetherAt St. James, most committees meet on the same night, once a month. (We usually meet on the second Wednesday of the month.) Everyone meets together for a brief time of devotions, to help us focus on the mission of the church. It is from this need for us to focus on our true mission that the term Focus Night came. After devotions, we break into the various committees to meet separately. These meetings are open to anyone in the church, and their agendas are posted prior to each meeting. This also allows the committees to work more effectively together. After the committee meetings, the Team/Committee chairs return to a Church Council meeting, where they report the decisions of their groups and, if required, present issues that require Council decision. The Church Council is the main decision making body of our church. The actual voting members of the Council are: the Pastor, Lay Leader, all Team/Committee chairs, Leadership staff, and Youth Coordinator. As with committees, the meetings are open to anyone to anyone, and are an excellent way of becoming informed of the decisions being made.
